When you
get ready for baseball season next year, make sure that
you're completely prepared to take part in the
festivities. There's all kinds of baseball paraphernalia
you'll want to have around. If your team wins, you'll
defintely need a lot of items related to your team's
identity.
So don't
just wing it this time. Make a checklist and decide what
you need ahead of time. That way, when you see it for a
good price, you'll recognize that and be able to make a
purchase.
One of the
big things you need is a baseball jersey or throwback
jersey from your favorite team. Now many people don't
understand that there are three different categories of
jerseys available for purchase.
There's the
authentic official jesey of the team you like. There's
the knock-off or duplicated jersey of your team. And
there are authentic old jerseys from real teams and
players of years gone by.
The
duplicate jerseys are fun to own, especially when money
is tight or you just don't want to spend a lot. Young
people especially like to own duplicate jerseys as
they're affordable and easy to find.
They're
great looking a lot of the time, and some people won't
know the difference. But of course there is a difference.
It's subtle but real, and a true collector
knows.
For one
thing, the numbers and names of the player are merely
printed on the dupllicate jerseys. On the authentic
jersey they're stitched on.
That gives
more texture and a more polished look. It's also true
that the material used for duplicate jerseys is just not
as of high a quality. Therefore, it's likely to wear out
faster, both from wear and tear and from
washing.
Still, it's
a good way to visibly support your team when you're in
the stadium and when you're doing your everyday chores.
Authentic jerseys have the embroidered numbers and
letters, as stated above. They're also made of great
quality material that lasts forever.
However,
they can be pricey, anywhere from $100 to $300 or so for
the real thing. It may be worth it to you to save up and
invest, or you might just want to pick up a knock-off for
less than half the price.
But
remember that authentic jerseys actually are a real
investment, while the duplicates are just clothes. The
authentic jerseys go on to become the third category of
jersey, the old ones.
When your
team gets a new design, the old jersey will become a
collectible, especially if its logo was something to
remember. The older the shirt is, the more valuable
becomes.
It gains in
value if there are wonderful old stories associated with
the team or player, meaning the history was especially
colorful or the wins were especially
big.
At that
point it's more valuable than it ever was, which means
you made a great investment. And every old and authentic
jersey gains even more value when it's autographed by a
famous player.
So if
you're at the ballpark, it may pay to wait for the
players and see if your favorite will sign your jersey.
It will either stay in the family as a great keepsake or
will allow you to sell it later on when the money will
come in handy.
